Speaker:

Kevin Donahue

Senior Managing Director, Practice Head

The Business & Corporate Communications Group

Strategic Communications Advisor | Crisis Leader | Brand Protector

For over 35 years, Kevin Donahue has helped organizations build, grow, and protect their brand, reputation, and business through major threats and disruptive corporate events. A trusted partner to boards and senior executives, Kevin brings deep expertise in navigating high-stakes moments – from bet-the-company crises to transformative corporate events – with precision, clarity, and credibility.

Kevin has counseled Fortune 500 and global clients across diverse sectors including construction, aviation and aerospace; finance; performing arts; higher education; insurance; healthcare; energy; chemicals; mining; manufacturing; and professional services. Kevin provides strategic communications counsel to public, private, and family-owned companies during complex business inflection points, including mergers and acquisitions, leadership transitions, bankruptcy, restructurings, and other change events. He specializes in aligning internal and external communications to support strategic objectives, mitigate legal and reputational risk, and foster stakeholder trust.

Topic:

Crisis Preparedness in Construction: Ready When it Matters Most

Preparing for Unexpected Events That Threaten People, Projects, and Reputation.

For construction professionals, the first moments after a serious incident can have lasting consequences for worker safety, business continuity, stakeholder trust, and reputation. This interactive one-hour session explores why Crisis Management & Communications Preparedness planning is just as important as traditional safety planning, and why every construction company and jobsite should be prepared before a crisis occurs.

Participants will learn how to recognize the potential consequences of construction-related crises, understand the major phases of a Crisis Preparedness Program, and how their company can benefit from being better able to identify, effectively manage, and successfully recover from a threatening issue or crisis situation. Following a brief presentation, attendees will apply these concepts by working through a realistic jobsite scenario, collaborating in small groups to identify critical actions, key stakeholders, and appropriate messages during the first hours of a crisis. The session will feature practical takeaways and resources that participants can apply right away to help strengthen preparedness in their respective companies and on their own projects.

Learning Objectives:

Understand what constitutes a crisis in the construction industry.

Recognize the differences between safety plans and Crisis Management & Communications plans and why both are needed.

Identify the key components of an effective crisis preparedness program.

Practice decision-making and communications during a realistic construction incident.

Develop a framework for managing stakeholders, messaging, and response actions when a crisis occurs.

This practical, discussion-based session is designed for construction leaders, project managers, safety professionals, superintendents, and anyone responsible for protecting people, projects, and organizational reputation when the unexpected happens.

Registration is mandatory.

Start the day with a unique opportunity to connect directly with experienced leaders from across the construction industry.

Attendees will be assigned to small tables of approximately 5–6 participants, with an industry leader joining each table for lunch and conversation. Hear candid perspectives on career development, leadership and what experienced professionals look for in the next generation of industry leaders.

Bring your questions and take advantage of the opportunity to learn from those who have built successful careers in construction.

SESSION 1

Contractor–Subcontractor Relationships & Lessons Learned

Strong contractor/subcontractor relationships are critical to successful projects—but even the best relationships can be tested by competing priorities, communication breakdowns and difficult project situations.

Hear perspectives from both sides of the relationship as panelists discuss what makes these partnerships work, where they commonly break down and what young professionals can do to establish trust and credibility early in their careers.

Conflict Resolution & Difficult Conversations

Conflict is inevitable. Knowing how to handle it professionally can make all the difference.

This interactive "fireside chat" style session will tackle the uncomfortable workplace situations young professionals may encounter as they grow in their careers.

What would you do if...A coworker repeatedly talks over you in meetings? You receive conflicting direction from two people above you? A peer isn’t pulling their weight and it’s affecting your work?

Through practical guidance, real-world scenarios and candid conversation, attendees will explore how to approach conflict confidently and productively.

Field vs. Office — Balancing Your Time in Both

What can you learn in the field that you simply can’t learn sitting behind a desk? And what does someone in the field benefit from understanding about what happens in the office?

This panel will explore how experience on both sides of the business can make you a stronger communicator, problem-solver and future leader.

Thousands of workers have been killed on the job each year and millions more are injured or sickened by occupational hazards.

The Construction Safety Forum 8 Hr. Safety Refresher teaches workers how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards according to the OSHA codes as well as about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

The 8 Hr. Safety Refresher is voluntary. It does not meet the training requirements contained in any OSHA standard. Some employers, unions, and various other jurisdictions also require workers to have this training to work on job sites and to fulfill their own safety training goals.

Groups who have integrated the program into their overall safety and health training plans include the building trades, general contractors and employer associations.

This class is open to signatory contractors and union members only.

This refresher training is applicable for 3 years.

In-Person Class

Thousands of workers have been killed on the job each year and millions more are injured or sickened by occupational hazards. While catastrophes draw brief media attention to dangerous conditions in the nation's workplace, only the families, friends and fellow workers of the victims often know the daily toll of workplace hazards.

It is time we start thinking ahead and placing…..

“SAFETY FIRST”

We hope to, in this course, bring some light to the full scope of workplace injuries and to assist the labor movements efforts to prevent this needless loss of life, limb and health.

OSHA, Competent Person
Electrical
Fall Protection
Material Handling Storage, Use & Disposal
OSHA 30 Hour - April 8,9,15,16 2027

In-Person Class

Thousands of workers have been killed on the job each year and millions more are injured or sickened by occupational hazards. While catastrophes draw brief media attention to dangerous conditions in the nation's workplace, only the families, friends and fellow workers of the victims often know the daily toll of workplace hazards.

It is time we start thinking ahead and placing…..

“SAFETY FIRST”

We hope to, in this course, bring some light to the full scope of workplace injuries and to assist the labor movements efforts to prevent this needless loss of life, limb and health.

Safety should be everyone's concern. The more you listen and learn - the safer the job - the life you save may be your own!

It takes 21 years of living before anyone can call you an adult, but it only takes a couple of seconds to die!

Contents of Program:

OSHA, Competent Person
Electrical
Fall Protection
Material Handling Storage, Use & Disposal
Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, Conveyors
Scaffolds
Excavations
Personal Protective Equipment
Floor & Wall Opening
Concrete (Road Work)
Steel Erection & Demolition
Blasting & Using Explosives
Fire Protection
Welding & Cutting
Confined Space
Recognize Health Hazard
Hand & Power Tools
Hazard Communication

*** Event Co-Sponsored by the Construction Safety Council of NEO***
