How many years have you worked in the industry?

8 years

Who or what has been the most influential in your career journey?

I have been fortunate enough to know many influential people in my career. People who have shown me patience, support, and kindness, all of which were greatly appreciated as someone who came into the trade extremely green! Being able to be the Vice President of Greater Cleveland Council of Tradeswomen has introduced me to some amazing tradeswomen who have helped set the bar high for my career.

What was your first job in construction and how did it shape your career path?

I worked at City Dogs Cleveland's new kennel as my very first job. It was a small job, which allowed a lot of one-on-one time with my journeyman and gave me a chance to ask questions and learn often. It showed me there will be moments where you learn what to do, and what NOT to do as well. It taught me to show patience, because I had never worked in the trades before and I was terrified. During this experience I met people who helped me along at my own pace.

What is a misconception that you think people still have about women in construction?

A common misconception is that we are in the trades to start drama or to break up “the boys club”. Tradeswomen are in the trades to learn a skilled trade and provide for themselves/their family.

What strengths do you think women bring to the construction industry?

We offer new perspectives and personalities to help make a job successful and enjoyable at the same time. We are good workers and will work harder than most to prove that we belong there.

What advice would you give other women that are considering or new to the construction industry?

Do it. It a wonderful career with an immense amount of opportunities. You may be the person to help your local progress in a positive manner.

What do you like to do when you're not on the job?

I like to spend time with my daughter, dog, and family. Most likely listening to music and reading a book.
