Guardians Pledge Greater Diversity in Workforce Goals

As the Cleveland Guardians prepare to start $202 million in renovations at Progressive Field this fall, they’re setting high goals for diversity in contracting and hiring and hosting workshops to help more small- and minority-owned businesses get involved.

The team is pledging to award 20% of its project contracts to Black-owned businesses, 18% to small businesses, 8% to female-owned businesses, 3% to Hispanic-owned businesses, and 2% to veteran-owned businesses, according to goals outlined on its new Community Benefits Program website. Companies can only be counted in one category, the website says.

It also set goals for hiring a workforce that is 45% county residents, 20% Cleveland residents, 20% minority, 6% female and 3% low-income.
